One week and counting

STATUS UPDATE

Another Election Day, another march to the Egan center. Nothing changes. Who saw me an Dave on the front page behind Begich? Haha.

As per the screening, here are some updates:

The minimal promotion approach to the premiere has been changed a bit. Looks like we have posters up and ads in the Northern Light. Supposedly we get the back page next week.

Also, the screening seems to be on the same night as the "Gender Blender Talent Show" which takes place in the Student Union, just outside the den. Hmmm.

A few KRUA interviews this week. Goin' through the motions.

And in the tradition of all SCU movie premieres, we're not done with it yet. We've got one week to put the final touches on. Don't worry though. We haven't missed a premiere yet.

Hope to see you all there.

Movin' Along

The grueling process of audio and color correction is taking place. The 91 minute runtime might be changed by a couple of minutes, but we're still pretty happy with the cut.

Kyle's down at South By Southwest filmfest thing, pimpin' the trailer. Early word is, there might already be some studio interest in a movie shot on such a recent technology, particularly on the camera we shot it on. More details as they unfold.

It's gonna be a couple weeks before we have the premiere copy of the movie, but we hope to get a release date for the premiere, and hold a test screening within the week, so that's pretty much what's going on.

Summer's comin' mofuckas. Yee.

Beekeeping...Cut!

Yep.

Looks like the rough cut will be over 90 minutes, like we'd originally hoped. All we's have to do is fix the kinks and add in some temp music. We're gonna try and have a release date within two or three weeks.

The talent show was just cut tonight. Holy shit. Mofucka's gonna shit theyselves when that scene hits.

Yep. She's about done.

So let me just give an extra special thanks to the guys that made this movie what it is:

David Turnbull- For helping make this whole clusterfuck of a shoot happen.
Kyle Johnston- For being the most resourceful, open, and motivated cat I've ever worked with.
Jesse Warfield- For shooting what's likely the finest looking movie ever shot in Anchorage.
John Whitlock -For being John Whitlock.
Owen Gourley- For carrying the movie.
Joey Weaver- For stepping up behind the scenes, and kicking ass onscreen.
Mike Collier- For going beyond the call of duty at every turn, and the editing medicine.
Jared Fink- For your kickass acting debut. And being there all the time to do the bitch work.
Nick Sweet- For the pics, the paintings, the cash, and the oodles of other miscelaneous help.
Bill Kriegs- For making preproduction a fuckload of alot easier.
Sarah, Katie and Skye- For being cooler than you know. And for giving us a set.
Bogdan Sheperd- For some kickass orginal music, and giving an orgasmic cameo.
Jeff Warren- For coming back to the roots, and throwin down.

Let we not forget the cast (hardly any of whom helped out solely by acting)
Andrew Stromstad.
Scott Stohl.
Keema Waterfield.
Mike Sherry.
Paul Jones.
Jill Davis.
Whitney McIlwain.
Arielle Young.
Dan Flores
Bruva' Aqq.
Max King.
Derek Heafer.
Randall Skillern.
Ian Dickson.
Monty Dickson.
Hannah Harrison.
Nelson Blewitt.
Jennifer Zilcko.
Becky Sheridan.
Kagome Higurashi.
Emily Cohn.
Nick Byrne.
Zack Scholze.
Aric Hudson.
Sasha Ellis.
Gwen.
Alissa.
Kim.

And of course, the countless extras and all of the cast members who I'm not quite ready to reveal yet. ;)

And thanks to my family for supporting in times of poverty. Also Pearce, J.R., Luke from the USUAA, Ellen from the library, and Dr. Kurzie from Kurzie Chiropractic.

With Checked Out and Election 04, we gained several mainstay cast members. Beekeeping was no exception. Nice work, folk.

Seriously. All the hard work, talent, and know how in the world doesn't mean jack shit without a good crew. I hope you all dig the movie as much as we do so far.

It's a wrap, folks.

We finally shot the talent show. After shooting Whitlock's bit last week, and the Beekeepers the week before, we shot the talent acts part of it.

First off let me say thanks to everyone who turned out and participated. That was probably the most fun I'd had on the set the entire shoot.

Joey Weaver, John Whitlock, Jared Fink. Wow. The J Troupe pulled they weight today. So hilarious. The other thing we shot today was Whitlock working out. Lord. You'll see.

In other casting news, Derek Haefer goes from Scarface radio host to comedic actor in the talent show scene. Fans of the Scavenger Hunt series will be happy to see what we have in store for them.

Hannah Harrison and Aric Hudson came back and shot some acts as well. Even Scott Stohl (from "The Rock") returned to reprise his role as the dean of the college.

And many newcomers were onsite adding several memorable segments:
Emily Cohn.
Gwen Something.
Scott Stohl's wife.
Others.

Damnit. I wish Dave had given me the list of names of all the people.

Oh, yeah. Dan, who's been following us since before Checked Out was made, even showed up. Yeeah. Best day on the set ever.

Anyway. We watched the footage. It's clear to me the end of the second act talent show will be the funniest part of the movie.

It won't be long now, folk. K?

Sunday

Today we shot half of the last two scenes. Next Sunday we will finish the other half.

First, John and Jared in a scene together is like foolproof. I just watched the dailies. Both were entirely on point. Nasty good.

And then John in the soptlight, in the talent show search. Effin' brilliant. O ho.

Next Sunday we're shooting talent show acts, sort of even having a lil' talent show. Be at the Arts 150 room at 4 on Sunday. K? Have a cameo. Be part of the crowd. Email clubmovie@gmail.com for more info. Thx.

Release date in sight

77 minutes of the movie is cut. One and a half scenes to be edited, not including the two scenes we're shooting next weekend. It looks like the run time will be somewhere between 85 and 95 minutes. Depending on what we decide to cut from the movie.

On the topic of next weekend, the big talent show scene we've been talking about forever will finally be shot. The second scene to be shot is a new one that was just written a few days ago to replace one of the scenes we decided to toss out. For the John Whitlock/Jared Fink fans. Prepare to see these Scarface dynamos share the screen FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.

So with so much of the movie done, we recently got a look at a rough version of the final product. I'm quite happy with it, but since I've been editing non stop for the past month it's a lil hard to look at the whole thing objectively. After this week I might take a lil break from the project again, even though I'm pretty anxious to get it out. A mid-march release would be possible, but so as not to rush it, Early April is loooking more likely.

We've been working a lil' on getting a legal soundtrack for the movie, so we can send it out to film fests and whatnot, but that'll come much later. The version you guys will see in March or April will be the good old fashioned guerilla way. Dylan and all.

And just for the fuck of it: Screenshot of Mike Sherry. A recent induction into the Scarface Trilogy club.
